Are Godard's filming techniques usable?
In the early part of Breathless, when Michel goes to see the script girl in her dressing room there's a lot of jump cutting. It's an interesting technique but it seems more of an interesting but failed experiment than an usable film editing tool when you're talking about a straight up dialogue scene. Wong Kar-Wai, heavily influenced by the French New Wave, uses montage and jump cutting also but one of the reasons he seems to use voice-over so much is because it's sort of a glue that holds the disperate images together. Dialogue seems a little too in-the-moment to be an overal bridge to the non-continuous imagery. Any other more modern examples that dispute me? I want to learn more.
