So frustrating the small hairs on my head always stand up?!?

When I curl it or strIghten it. I don't like to put stuff on it when my hair is done but is there anything I can do so they can grow faster or something? Thanks I've always had this problem. It's not just in my front hair it's also where my line going up goes too.
